Sous Chef

An exciting opportunity for a talented, hands-on Sous Chef to join an exclusive luxury safari and wellness retreat in the Addo area of the Eastern Cape. Set within a private wilderness environment, the property combines understated luxury, wellness, nature and exceptional culinary experiences. This is an opportunity for a chef who enjoys creating thoughtful, high-quality dining experiences within an intimate luxury environment. THE ROLE Kitchen Operations * Support the senior kitchen team with the day-to-day running of the kitchen. * Assist with food preparation, cooking, plating and service across the property's daily operations. * Maintain consistently high standards of food quality, presentation and portion control. * Contribute to the preparation of seasonal, fresh and thoughtfully presented cuisine. * Ensure the kitchen is fully prepared for daily guest meals and special dining experiences. * Work effectively under pressure while maintaining a calm and professional approach. * Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, food safety and kitchen hygiene. * Assist with stock control, ordering, wastage management and general kitchen organisation. * Ensure kitchen procedures and standards are consistently followed. * Support and guide junior members of the kitchen team where required. * Step into a leadership role in the absence of the senior chef. Guest Experience * Contribute to an exceptional dining experience for guests throughout their stay. * Take pride in producing food that reflects the quality and positioning of the property. * Assist with accommodating guest preferences, dietary requirements and special requests. * Work closely with the front-of-house team to ensure smooth and professional meal service. * Contribute ideas and creativity to the ongoing development of the culinary offering. WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR We are looking for a capable and passionate chef with solid professional kitchen experience and a genuine interest in delivering exceptional food within a luxury hospitality environment. * Previous experience as a Sous Chef, or strong relevant experience at a similar level. * Solid professional kitchen experience with strong all-round culinary skills. * Experience within a luxury lodge, safari lodge, luxury hotel or high-end hospitality environment would be advantageous. * A strong understanding of food quality, presentation and consistency. * Experience working with fresh, seasonal and quality ingredients. * Strong organisational and time-management skills. * Able to remain calm and maintain high standards under pressure. * Hands-on, reliable and comfortable working as part of a professional kitchen team. * Good leadership and communication skills. * A genuine passion for food and creating memorable guest experiences. * Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and kitchen procedures. * Must be willing to relocate to the Addo area of the Eastern Cape.
