Resident Engineer – Roads ------------------------- * Job Type Contract * Qualification Bachelors * Experience 20 years * Location KwaZulu-Natal * City Pinetown * Job Field Engineering / Technical Job Description * An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Resident Engineer – Roads to join a major road upgrade project on the N3 in Pinetown, Durban. * The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing road construction activities, ensuring that works are executed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, quality standards and contractual requirements. * This role is suited to a highly experienced, professionally registered engineering professional with substantial exposure to major road upgrade projects and the technical expertise to manage complex road construction activities. Key Responsibilities * Oversee and manage road construction activities throughout the project lifecycle. * Provide technical supervision and engineering oversight of roadworks. * Monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications and project requirements. * Supervise and coordinate contractors, subcontractors and site personnel. * Ensure quality control and quality assurance across all road construction activities. * Monitor construction programmes, progress and project deliverables. * Review technical submissions, construction methodologies and contractor documentation. * Identify and resolve technical challenges arising during construction. * Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, specifications and contractual obligations. * Liaise with the client, contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders. * Attend site meetings and provide technical input on project progress and construction matters. * Monitor health, safety and environmental compliance on site. * Maintain accurate site records, reports and construction documentation. * Ensure that construction works are delivered in accordance with project requirements and within agreed timeframes. Technical Experience Required Candidates must have at least 20 years' relevant experience in major road upgrade projects, with strong practical exposure to: * Bulk earthworks. * Pavement layer works. * Asphalt surfacing. * Retaining structures. * Road construction and rehabilitation. * Construction supervision and contract administration. * Quality assurance and control. * Management of contractors and site activities. Minimum Requirements * Relevant BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Civil Engineering. * Professionally registered with ECSA as either: * Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng), or * Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng). * Minimum 20 years' relevant experience in major road upgrade projects. * Proven experience in the supervision and management of complex road construction works. * Strong technical knowledge of road construction methods, materials and specifications. * Excellent project coordination, communication and problem-solving skills. * Ability to manage demanding construction environments and meet project deadlines.
