Gauteng is an important market for jobs and professional roles in South Africa. Gauteng concentrates head-office roles, banking, retail, logistics, and public-sector vacancies. Competition is high, so applying early and tailoring each CV matters more than sending one generic document everywhere. Finance, IT, call centres, retail management, and mining services dominate hiring. Students often find internships and learnerships through large employers with structured intake seasons. Many roles assume daily travel across Johannesburg, Pretoria, or Ekurhuleni. Before you apply, estimate taxi, bus, or fuel costs so a job that looks well paid on paper still makes sense after commuting.
