A leading financial institution is seeking a highly competent Trade Officer to join their Durban-based head office on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role is ideal for a banking or finance professional with experience in international trade transactions, foreign exchange, and client-focused service delivery. Role Summary The Trade Officer will be responsible for processing payment requests related to local and international trade transactions, ensuring all activity complies with Shariah principles, exchange control regulations, and internal bank policies. The role involves significant client engagement, document vetting, transaction finalization, and support of trade finance advances and foreign payments. Key Responsibilities Foreign Documentary Transactions: * Process and review Import Letters of Credit (LCs) and Bills for Collection * Ensure documentation accuracy and compliance with international banking standards * Liaise with clients on discrepancies and obtain written confirmations * Coordinate finalization of transactions and applicable charges Foreign Non-Documentary Transactions: * Handle Outward Telegraphic Transfers (imports) * Process commercial and proforma invoices * Vet payment instructions for accuracy and compliance * Manage exchange rate confirmations and execution Trade Finance Advances & Local Payments: * Administer both documentary and non-documentary foreign payments * Review and approve payment requests in accordance with Shariah principles * Process local payments while ensuring regulatory alignment * Ensure timely submission of Offer to Purchase and monitor shipment documentation Client & Internal Support: * Address and resolve customer inquiries and complaints * Support internal departments with trade-related queries * Compile audit files and ensure compliance reporting * Assist in back-office operations when necessary for coverage Qualifications & Experience…
