Job Summary
Tax Governance & Compliance:
Develop, implement, and maintain a robust Group tax governance framework across African operations
Ensure full compliance with all applicable tax legislation across jurisdictions, including:
Corporate Income Tax
VAT
Withholding Taxes
Payroll-related taxes
Customs & duties (where applicable)
Transfer pricing
Oversee preparation, review, and submission of all tax returns across the Group
Monitor legislative changes and assess their impact on Group operations
Ensure strong internal controls over tax processes and reporting
Tax Accounting & Reporting:
Lead preparation and review of:
Current and deferred tax calculations
Annual and interim tax provisions
Effective Tax Rate (ETR) analyses
Tax disclosures within statutory financial statements
Partner with Group Finance on consolidated and Board reporting
Provide audit support and manage relationships with external auditors
Tax Risk Management & Audits:
Manage tax audits, disputes, and assessments with tax authorities across Africa
Proactively identify tax risks and implement mitigation strategies
Oversee timely and commercially sound resolution of tax matters
Conduct periodic tax health checks across Group entities
Strategic Advisory & Business Partnering:
Provide tax advisory support on:
New market entry and expansion across Africa
Group restructures and reorganisations
Cross-border transactions
Review and advise on transaction documentation including SPAs, funding structures, and valuation reports
Support effective tax planning aligned with commercial and regulatory requirements
Leadership & Stakeholder Management:
Lead and develop the Group tax function across Africa
Manage relationships with external tax advisors and service providers
Partner with Finance and operational teams to promote tax awareness and compliance
Provide training on tax matters where required
Support Executive and Board-level decision-making
Skills & Experience:
Strong technical knowledge of direct and indirect taxes
Multi-jurisdictional African tax experience
Tax accounting and reporting expertise
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen
Ability to operate independently in a complex, fast-paced environment
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Required)
Postgraduate qualification or professional accreditation (CA(SA), CTA, or similar – Advantageous)
Minimum 8–10 years’ senior tax experience, preferably in a Group or multinational environment
