Senior Cloud Engineer – Microsoft 365 & Azure
Role Purpose
The Senior Cloud Engineer – Microsoft 365 & Azure is accountable for the end-to-end engineering, stability, security, and optimization of the organization’s Microsoft cloud environments. The role provides senior-level technical leadership across Azure infrastructure and Microsoft 365 platforms, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, cost-effective, and aligned to enterprise governance standards. The position requires a strong blend of hands-on engineering capability, architectural oversight, operational discipline, and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
1. Azure Cloud Engineering & Operations
- Design, deploy, configure, and maintain Azure infrastructure including virtual networks, virtual machines, storage accounts, backup, and recovery services.
- Implement and maintain high availability, resilience, and disaster recovery architectures in Azure.
- Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimization across Azure subscriptions.
- Monitor cloud environments using native and third-party tools, proactively identifying risks or degradation.
- Act as the final escalation point for complex Azure-related incidents and lead root cause analysis.
2. Microsoft 365 Platform Engineering
- Administer and optimise Microsoft 365 services including Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, Intune etc..
- Design and enforce identity and access management controls including conditional access, MFA, and privileged access.
- Maintain tenant-level configuration baselines, service health monitoring, and lifecycle management.
- Support complex integrations and migrations involving Microsoft 365 workloads.
3. Security, Governance & Compliance
- Implement and maintain cloud security best practices in alignment with organizational security policies.
- Enforce least privilege access principles and privileged identity management controls.
- Support security monitoring, audit readiness, and compliance reporting requirements.
- Work closely with Information Security teams to remediate identified risks and vulnerabilities.
- Ensure Security posture in Azure as well as O365 is consistent with Microsoft best practice recommendations.
4. Architecture, Standards & Documentation
- Contribute to and maintain cloud architecture standards, patterns, and design documentation.
- Review and approve cloud designs and changes to ensure alignment with enterprise standards.
- Produce and maintain operational runbooks, technical documentation, and knowledge articles.
5. Automation & Infrastructure as Code
- Design and implement automation using PowerShell, Azure Automation, Logic Apps, and Infrastructure as Code approaches.
- Reduce manual effort and operational risk through repeatable, standardized automation.
- Support CI/CD-aligned deployment practices where applicable.
6. Operational
- Support service management processes including incident, change, and problem management.
- Collaborate with network, security, application, and vendor teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep hands-on expertise in Microsoft Azure (IaaS and PaaS).
- Strong Microsoft 365 tenant administration and governance experience.
- Advanced understanding of identity and access management.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- High standard of technical documentation and communication.
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant IT qualification (Degree or Diploma)
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in enterprise cloud engineering roles.
- Proven experience operating production Azure and Microsoft 365 environments.
- Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-305, or MS-102 are advantageous.
