Purpose of the RoleTo ensure the effective maintenance, repair, and upkeep of hotel facilities by supervising a small maintenance team while actively participating in daily hands-on maintenance tasks. The role ensures guest comfort, safety, and operational efficiency.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Maintenance OperationsPerform routine maintenance tasks (plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, painting, etc.).Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and staff.Conduct regular inspections of rooms, public areas, and equipment.Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are followed.2. Team SupervisionSupervise and support maintenance staff on daily tasks.Allocate jobs and monitor completion.Provide on-the-job guidance and basic training where needed.Ensure teamwork and productivity within the department.3. Hands-On WorkActively assist the team with repairs and maintenance tasks.Troubleshoot issues and resolve them efficiently.Step in during busy periods or emergencies.4. Maintenance PlanningAssist in implementing maintenance plans and schedules.Monitor maintenance logs and ensure proper record-keeping.Identify recurring issues and suggest improvements.5. Health & Safety ComplianceEnsure all maintenance work complies with safety regulations.Maintain safe working conditions for staff and guests.Report hazards and ensure corrective action is taken.6. Stock & Equipment ControlMonitor tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies.Ensure proper use and storage of tools.Assist in ordering necessary materials.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
+ Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
+ Technical certification (advantageous but not required).
Experience
+ 3–5 years’ experience in hotel/hospitality maintenance or similar environment.
+ Previous experience supervising or leading a team.
+ Practical experience in plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance.
+ Construction background (highly advantageous).
Skills & Knowledge
+ Basic knowledge of:
- Plumbing systems
- Electrical systems
- Building maintenance

WORKING CONDITIONS
