Apprenticeship Overview
AFGRI Equipment, a long-standing John Deere agency, is offering 40 apprenticeship opportunities for candidates interested in becoming qualified Tractor Mechanics or Earthmoving Mechanics.
This is a 3-year structured apprenticeship programme that combines practical workplace training with formal learning through accredited training institutions.
Programme Details
* Number of Positions: 40
* Reference Number: AO-2345
* Duration: 3 Years (up to 4 years maximum)
* Trades:
+ Tractor Mechanic
+ Earthmoving Mechanic
Training Structure
The apprenticeship includes:
* Practical workplace training
* Attendance at training institutions (if required)
* Distance learning through accredited colleges
* Product training by AFGRI specialists
* Internal technical training
Training is supported by:
* AgriSETA
* merSETA
Probation Period
* First 6 months is a probation period
* Both the company and apprentice assess suitability
* Either party may withdraw during this period
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
* Grade 12 (Matric) with:
+ English
+ Mathematics or Technical Mathematics (Math Literacy not accepted)
* Valid driver’s licence
* Basic computer literacy
* Good communication and administrative skills
Advantageous Subjects:
* Physical Science
* Engineering Graphics & Design
* Diesel Trade Theory
* Motor Trade Theory
Key Responsibilities
Apprentices will:
* Train to become qualified mechanics
* Repair and maintain equipment
* Assist with stock control
* Provide customer service
* Perform general workshop duties
Costs and Commitments
* Training is free if successfully completed
* Failed modules must be repeated at your own cost
* Apprentices must complete a work-back period
* Early withdrawal may require repayment of training costs
