Our client, based in Stellenbosch, is looking for an experienced Head Groundsman to oversee and maintain premium gardens across multiple sites in the region.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on gardening professional with solid leadership skills and a track record of guiding and motivating teams. This role is perfect for someone who takes pride in caring for high-end gardens and understands the level of detail and quality expected on premium properties.
Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to): \*Responsible for the maintenance and presentation of premium gardens across 3–5 sites \*Planning and coordinating daily, weekly, and seasonal gardening activities \*Leading, supervising, and motivating gardening teams on site \*Ensuring gardens are maintained to a consistently high standard \*Managing lawn care, pruning, planting, general landscaping, and cleanliness of outdoor areas \*Allocating tasks and ensuring efficient use of labour and resources \*Monitoring garden conditions and addressing issues proactively \*Ensuring equipment and tools are used correctly and maintained \*Enforcing health and safety standards within the gardening teams \*Reporting on garden conditions and team performance to management \*All other tasks related to the role.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in gardening or grounds maintenance;
• Proven experience managing and leading a team of gardeners;
• No formal qualification in plant nutrition required, but is preffered;
• Ability to work across multiple sites and manage priorities effectively;
• Good organisational and people-management skills;
• Valid driver’s licence.
