We are seeking an experienced and motivated Financial Accountant to join our finance team on a 6-month temp contract with the option to apply for a permanent role. As Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in all aspects of the finance function and will report to the Head of Finance.
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant with completed SAIPA or SAICA articles and a minimum of 5 years of financial accounting experience to trial balance. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with tax compliance, SARS eFiling, and general ledger reconciliations. This role requires excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while ensuring accuracy in financial reporting and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
* Financial Accounting & Reporting
+ Maintain accurate financial records and prepare financial statements up to trial balance.
+ Ensuring income and expenses are recorded appropriately and allocated to the correct cost centres
+ Preparation of monthly management accounts
+ Ensure compliance with IFRS and applicable financial regulations.
+ Assist with the monthly financial close process.
+ Detailed review and analysis of balance sheet accounts and reconciliations to month end reporting
+ Reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank, creditors, and debtors, prepaid expenses etc.
+ Process journals, accruals, and adjustments as needed.
* Tax & Compliance
+ Manage VAT, Income Tax, and Provisional Tax calculations and submissions via SARS eFiling.
+ Assist in ensuring compliance with SARS regulations and liaise with tax authorities when necessary.
+ Stay up to date with tax legislation and regulatory changes affecting the business.
* Accounts Reconciliation & Controls
+ Perform bank, creditors, and intercompany reconciliations.
+ Monitor and reconcile fixed assets register and ensure accurate depreciation calculations.
+ Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data.
+ Daily cash management and authorising of payments on banking systems
* Audit & Financial Governance
+ Ensure adherence to internal financial controls and company policies.
+ Maintain proper documentation and filing for financial records and transactions.
* Payments & Cash Management
+ Checking and releasing payments
+ Managing Supplier and Customer accounts
+ Performing debtor and creditor reconciliations
+ Managing daily cash management
Key Requirements:
* Completed SAIPA or SAICA articles.
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial accounting, with exposure to trial balance.
* Strong taxation experience including VAT, Income tax and SARS eFiling.
* Excellent understanding of general ledger reconciliations.
* Experience working with SAGE Evolution.
* Proficiency in MS Excel
* Strong knowledge of IFRS and tax regulations.
* Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
* BCom Accounting or related degree
* Experience in a finance department within a corporate or SME environment.
