We are looking for an experienced Commissioning Site Supervisor to lead pre-commissioning and commissioning activities on large-scale industrial and process plant projects across South Africa and the broader African region.
This is a leadership role responsible for managing commissioning teams, coordinating multidisciplinary stakeholders, and ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient plant start-up and handover.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage all pre-commissioning and commissioning activities across multiple systems and disciplines
* Ensure equipment readiness, system completion, and handover in line with project milestones
* Develop, review, and implement commissioning strategies, procedures, and schedules
* Oversee commissioning teams, contractors, and vendors on-site
* Drive compliance with South African regulations, project specifications, and international standards
* Manage:
+ System walkdowns and punch listing
+ Mechanical completion and turnover processes
+ Functional testing and start-up activities
* Identify project risks and implement mitigation and corrective actions
* Provide regular reporting on progress, risks, and performance to project leadership
* Coordinate closely with construction, engineering, and operations teams
Health, Safety & Compliance
* Champion a zero-harm safety culture aligned with South African HSE regulations
* Ensure strict adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act requirements
* Lead site safety initiatives, including:
+ Risk assessments and hazard identification
+ Permit-to-work systems
+ Toolbox talks and safety audits
* Empower teams to stop unsafe work immediately
Planning & Coordination
* Lead commissioning planning aligned with overall project schedules and milestones
* Coordinate mobilization of commissioning personnel, vendors, and specialist contractors
* Interface with Site Managers, clients, and regulatory authorities
* Ensure delivery targets for safety, quality, cost, and schedule are achieved
Minimum Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation)
* Minimum 8–12 years’ experience in industrial or process plant environments
* At least 5 years in a senior commissioning or leadership role
* Strong experience in:
+ Pre-commissioning & commissioning execution
+ Large-scale EPC or brownfield/greenfield projects
+ Multidisciplinary systems (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation)
* Solid knowledge of:
+ Commissioning tools, procedures, and documentation
+ Engineering drawings (P&IDs, single-line diagrams, etc.)
+ HSE systems and risk management
Preferred Experience
* Experience working on projects within Africa or remote site environments
* Background in sectors such as:
+ Energy (oil & gas, renewables, power generation)
+ Mining & minerals processing
+ Petrochemical or heavy industry
* Professional registration with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or eligibility to register
