The University of the Free State (UFS) invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the Electrical Apprentice positions (x2) for 2026.

Location: Bloemfontein Campus, Free State, South Africa
Contract Duration: 12 months (with possible extension)
Stipend: R3 879.84 per month
About the Apprenticeship
This apprenticeship is offered under Engineering Services (Facilities Management) at UFS.
The programme provides:
* Practical training in electrical systems
* Hands-on experience working with qualified electricians
* Exposure to campus infrastructure maintenance
* Skills development in line with industry standards
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will:
* Assist in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical equipment
* Work with maintenance teams to troubleshoot electrical issues
* Learn electrical codes and safety standards
* Use tools and equipment effectively
* Maintain records of work completed
* Participate in training programmes
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
* Grade 12 or NCV Level 4
* N3, N4, N5, or N6 in Electrical Engineering
* Valid driver’s licence
Recommended Skills
* Basic knowledge of electrical systems and wiring
* Understanding of electrical diagrams and blueprints
* Experience with hand and power tools

* Ability to follow instructions and safety rules
* Teamwork and communication skills
* Basic MS Office knowledge
Physical Requirements
* Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 23kg)
* Comfortable working at heights or confined spaces
* Good hand-eye coordination
