GEOLOGIST X1 (Grading C5)
Qualifying Criteria:
* Grade 12 or equivalent NQF qualifications
* Degree in Geology, Honors degree in Geology preferred.
* Professional affiliation to SACNASP
* Minimum 4 years’ previous experience in an underground trackless environment
* Computer literacy (MS packages with emphasis on Excel)
+ Proficiency in 3D modeling software will be advantageous (Leapfrog and Datamine)
+ Proficiency in ARCGIS will be advantageous
+ Experience in Database software use, such as MAXGEO (Datashed and Logchief)
+ Proficiency in CAD software but not limited to MineRPCAD and Microstation
* Proficient in English and any other of the 11 official languages
* Must have a valid driver's license.
* South African Citizenship
* Clear Criminal Record
Responsibilities:
* Plan and execute geological mapping underground.
* Proactively mitigate and communicate risks related to geological anomalies and continuously update Geology plans.
* Implement and maintain applicable Safety regulations, Codes of Practice, and standards appropriate to Geological processes and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
* Maintain and control Geological data for annual planning of ore reserves (Maps, models, layouts, cores, contours, etc.)
* Provide technical input into mine planning about geological structures, on-reef mining, grade, etc.
* Effectively manage Geological information by updating the borehole database, communicating information to stakeholders (Production departments and Management), and providing advice in areas of responsibility
* Monitor Geology-related activities *inter alia* underground drilling programmes, underground development & stope areas, and direction of haulages.
* Monitor sampling coverage in the area of responsibility and make sure sampling intervals are acceptably maintained.
* Monitor sample sheets generated and accurately calculate best practice cuts for different mining methods.
* Maintain accurate measurement of Geological Losses and effective White Area Investigations to ensure the integrity of ore reserve estimation and extraction.
* Conduct regular inspections within the area of control and ensure problems are addressed proactively with Production personnel and aligned with planning and work assignments.
* Compile written reports from Geology measurements and observations e.g. Geology summaries, structure maps, reef horizon management summaries, and project summaries detailing the impact of identified risks or opportunities.
* Monitor and advise on data capturing to ensure compliance with organisational Best Practices.
* Conduct and/or attend necessary meetings (Safety, Operations, HoD, Planning, Geology, Projects, ad-hoc, etc.) to ensure that performance issues are formally highlighted and addressed effectively.
* Attend regular meetings with management and provide feedback on performance as well as receive instructions or work assignments.
* Complete all necessary administration regarding timesheets, material requisitions, permission booklet, feedback, and record-keeping required for the role.
* Support the overall operational management of the department.
* Identify opportunities to optimise operations and participate in improvement projects.
* Keep abreast of new developments in Geology that can enhance operational performance.
* Build effective relationships through respect and two-way communication
* Identify potential conflict situations and mitigate the impact on the Geology team
* Ensure that employees work in a safe and productive environment
