Work Description
The Manager: Mining manages and coordinates safe, effective production within the mining operations. Responsibilities include planning, sourcing, allocating, and properly utilizing all resources (Human Resources, budget, and material); controlling and reporting on budgeted expenditure and revenue. Evaluate procedures and control expenditures against budgets. Determines optimum use of available resources within the unit. Plans and commissions production-related projects. Controls production for stopping and development operations by using daily reports.
Further, the role is also responsible for ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
Qualifications/Competencies
* Mine Manager Certificate of Competency.
* Must be computer literate.
* Good communication and interpersonal capabilities.
* Strong leadership qualities.
* Strong short-, medium-, and long-term planning capabilities.
Experience
* Minimum 4 to 6 years of post-qualification experience in a gold production environment.
Financial Effectiveness
* Interpret strategic objectives and needs across disciplines and changes in the micro and macro environment to ensure the availability and management of funds to meet the short, medium, and long-term objectives of the Mining Department.
Operational Planning
* Develops, evaluates, and monitors mining and/or business strategy to ensure the attainment of the business units and/or group's strategy and objectives.
SHE
* Interprets operational and mining risks to ensure the development and management of a risk management plan to minimize identifiable risks to an operation.
Production Management
* Develop and review plans and systems (both technical and management) to achieve and improve mining KPIs (mining to plan and/or benchmarking and/or best practice).
* Manages the investigation and development of mining resources to allow for continuous improvement in terms of efficiency and unit cost.
* Reviews and regulates the commitment of resources within the mining areas to optimize the efficiency of operations and achievement of overall objectives.
* Identifies and coordinates the development and integration of new technology and best practices, using in-depth technical expertise, to replace or improve the cost-effectiveness of operational systems and services.
* Give direction in managing the coordination of the various disciplines to support the achievement of the mining objectives.
* Communicates with other divisions in the company regarding issues where Mining has an impact on those areas of the business.
People Management
* Review and approve labour plans around operational targets.
* Provide leadership and inspire team members towards high performance.
* Ensure the optimum utilisation and effectiveness of all human resources in the Mining Department.
Organised Labour
* Liaise effectively with representative labour organisations to ensure that there is a harmonious working environment in the operation.
